Yarram Water Tower Art - Victoria

In April 2023, the Yarram Water Tower was transformed into a breathtaking piece of public art by the talented artist Heesco Khosnaran.

This mural is not just another addition to the town’s landscape—it's the 25th and largest official mural in Yarram, and it marks the grand conclusion of the Heesco Town Project, a community-driven initiative that began in 2021. Over the course of three years, Heesco has worked tirelessly to bring vibrant, meaningful art to Yarram, and this mural stands as the culmination of his efforts.

For the design of the upper part of the water tower, local artist Wayne Tindal, who has played a pivotal role in designing many of the current murals in Yarram, collaborated closely with Eric Greenaway and several others to pinpoint the key local tourism hotspots.

Their research and efforts ensured that the murals not only enhanced the town's aesthetics but also celebrated the unique character and attractions of the area, making each mural a symbol of local pride and identity.

The lower part of the Yarram Water Tower features a deeply symbolic and colorful design, rich with imagery and stories that are both culturally and personally significant.

This section was designed by 'GUNAIKURANI' Elder Sandra Patten, whose vision was to create a visual representation of what she calls "Sitting On Country." For Sandra, this concept is a deeply personal and spiritual one, representing her connection to the land, a sense of belonging, and a feeling of being at home.

The design she created is a powerful reflection of her relationship with the land and her heritage, capturing the essence of her culture and the deep roots she has in the region.

This mural is not just a visual enhancement of the Yarram Water Tower but also a celebration of the town’s history, culture, and people. Heesco’s artistic mastery, combined with the contributions of local artists and community members like Sandra Patten, has transformed the tower into a landmark that tells the story of Yarram in a profound and meaningful way.
