The Portland Silos, now know as “The Foundations” were the 20th Silos to be included in the Australian Silo Art Trail and were completed in May 2018.

The old Portland Cement Works were painted by Guido van Helten and depict five male and one female past Portland Cement workers.

They are Jack Abbott, Bert Boyling, Herb Coleman, Tommy Fitzgerald, Ernie Jeffree and Yvonne Hogan. Sadly Jack who is pictured in the stripe shirt on the left, passed away in November 2019.

Athol Boyling known all his life as 'Bert' was born in Portland in 1935 and worked at the Cement works and quarry for 32 years up until its closure.

Herb was born and bred in Portland and worked as a fitter and turner at the Cement works from 1954 to 1968 until his retirement from the Cement works when he was made redundant.

Yvonne Hogan worked in administration at the Cement Works for a number of years before moving on to pursue other passions in her life.
