The Murrumbateman Loins Club Water Tank Artwork Project painted by Jimmi Buscombe in February 2023

In 2019 a new concrete water tank was built in the Bush Cemetery Precinct in Murrumbateman NSW. The Murrumbateman Lions Club had run a foundation project from 1991 in this area focusing on the beautification of the old bush cemetery and came up with the idea to have a mural painted onto the bare concrete tank to enhance this precinct.

The Lions Club approached Murrumbateman Landcare to seek support for the project as Landcare had an ongoing conservation interest in this area. Support was given and so it began.

This was a $50 000, 3-year project, that finally came into fruition on Wednesday 22nd February 2023 when our artist extraordinaire Jimmi Buscombe completed the installation of his beautiful artwork on the water tank.

A project that not only created a beautiful piece of artwork, but also an education resource for our community. All funds for this project were raised by the Lions Club and the local Murrumbateman community and businesses.

The concept for the design of the artwork was developed by the Murrumbateman Lions Club, the Murrumbateman Progress Association and Murrumbateman Landcare. It was agreed that the work should depict a naturalistic theme that focused on endangered flora and fauna from within our local region. The concept ideas were sent as a list to Jimmi from which he created this stunning design.

The mural is set in a box-gum grassy wood land, a critically endangered ecological community, with a Yellow Box (Eucalyptus melliodora), Common Fringe Lily (Thysanthotus tuberosus, Chocolate Lily (Arthropodium fimbriatim), and Large Golden Moth Orchid (Diuris behrii). Featured are the vulnerable male and female Golden Sun Moth (Synemon plana) and a magnificent, endangered male and female Gang Gang Cockatoo (Callocephalon fimbriatum).

This is the biggest project our Club has undertaken and would not have been possible without the support and generosity of the Australian Lions Foundation, Murrumbateman Landcare, the Murrumbateman Progress Association, Yass Valley Council, and the Murrumbateman community and local businesses.
