Merino Water Tank Art - Victoria

Artist: Jimmi Buscombe

Location:  Portland-Casterton Rd, Merino, VIC

The Merino Water Tank was painted by Artist Jimmi Buscombe and completed in March 2023

Jimmi Buscombe's Story of the tank in his words.

This mural is one of my favorites to date. A whimsical trompe l'oeil piece that depicts the 2m x 10m water tank as a glass windowed aquarium, allowing visitors to see inside the tank where native animals happily swim around in the water.

Going left to right we have a short, finned eel in the reeds, a wombat (!) in a yellow polkadot bikini with snorkel, googles and flippers, the school's resident hen, Helen, in a pink flamingo floaty having just laid an egg into the water, but fear not as we see the turtle, wearing a surf lifesaving cap coming to the rescue to save the egg.

Then we have some Native Estuary Perch and a platypus, then a baby Estuary Perch with a Sacred Kingfisher diving in to try and get him. And last but not least we see the smashed aquarium window with water gushing out, and under the gushing water we see an opportunistic koala having a shower, wearing a pink shower cap, complete with a pink towel on a towel rail.

This tank is located at the Merino Consolidated Primary School and can be seen from the road please be aware that the tank is on school grounds so please do not cross any fencing as you should be able to get a decent photo of Jimmi's amazing work without disturbing the school.
