This stunning little water tank was painted by Jason Swales of Studio Surf in April 2021. It’s locally now as the emu tank for obvious reasons and is suitated at one of the many pink lakes of the Yorke Peninsula.

One of the largest salt lakes near Yorketown is Lake Fowler, which can be found on the way to Edithburgh. When full, this lake covers an area of around 780 hectares and at the peak of the commercial salt industry on Southern Yorke Peninsula was the largest salt scraping operation. Lake Fowler has a wealth of history having been part of salt and gypsum mining industries in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

Be sure to vist the ruins of the Lake Fowler Salt Works which can be found along Lake Fowler Road and see a length of dry stone walling which can be found along several roads nearby, as well as New Honiton Road south of Lake Fowler.

The Yorke Penninsula has a salt lake self driving tour as well. You can find more information about it here: https://yorkepeninsula.com.au/yorke peninsula-salt-lake-trail
