Kinglake West Water Tank Art - Victoria

Artist: Tim Bowtell assisted by Tim Honey

Location:  Recreation Road off Whittlesea-Kinglake Road, Kinglake, VIC

The Kinglake West Water Tank Art was completed by Tim Bowtell and assisted by Tim Honey in February 2022 after 6 intense days of work.

The project was funded by the Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal and the murals are painted on the water tanks which are alongside the Kinglake West Mechanics Institute Hall.

These historical murals depict the gold miners and their bush hut along with magnificent horses that pulled the timber. They also show a giant tree called 'Big Ben' which in the 1900's many children used to visit and play around. You can also see the image of Mary Burton whom in the early 1900's was the only midwife in the town and helped many women though their pregnancies and childbirth.

The town of Kinglake was adamant that as much of their history be depicted in the murals as possible and clearly Tim Bowtell and Tim Honey have done just this.

The Kinglake West Water Tanks now form part of the well known Dindi Arts Trail which is a series of murals throughout the Kinglake Ranges displaying the unique character of its communities.
