Bowen Water Tank Art - Queensland

Location: Tynwald Ave, Bowen, QLD

Photos by: Annette Green and Peter Hunter

Bowen is a beautiful town on the east coast of north Queensland. It has two water tanks that were painted by well known mural artists, Phantast Cultural Music and Arts Association and they were completed in September of 2018.

The tanks were completed with the help of many Bowen residents and local school children, who picked up a brush and joined in the fun which made it a real community effort.

The Bowen water tanks portray their rich horticultural industry, their amazing natural environment, beautiful sea life and their link to the past. According to the Whitsunday Regional Council, the mural reflects exactly what their community values about their town.

The project was made possible with a Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grant to Bowen Tourism and Business. The RADF is a partnership between The Queensland Government and Whitsunday Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

Parking Information

For the silo trail travellers they can be found on top of the hill in Tynwald Ave, Bowen, Queensland. There is a cul-de-sac at its end which we managed to turn around our 7 metre bus and tow car, but only because there was no one else parked there at the time. The climb up the hill was very steep as well.

There are two painted water tanks at the top of Tynwald Ave in Bowen. There is access for parking a caravan at the site and there is also room for turning. Both tanks are fenced off so can't walk all around them.
