The Bonny Hills Water Tank Art was painted by Amanda Newman in June 2023. Amanda was assisted by Brad Collins.

One notable feature of Bonny Hills is the mural titled 'Paradise Found.' This artwork was designed by Melbourne-based artist Amanda Newman and was inspired by the local floral species and birdlife that regularly visit the water reservoir site. The mural serves as a celebration of the surrounding natural environment and adds to the beauty of the drive into Bonny Hills. Unlike many installations of this scale, Amanda's mural was hand-painted using various brushes, giving it a soft yet striking and dramatic appearance.

The installation of the 'Paradise Found' mural has had a transformative impact on the local community. Previously, the site was frequently subjected to graffiti and vandalism, affecting the overall appeal and safety of the area. However, with the installation of the artwork, the site has become an attractive destination for art-loving visitors, discouraging anti-social behavior and promoting a sense of pride among neighboring residents.

The funding for the 'Paradise Found' mural and four other site-specific mural projects in the LGA was made possible through the NSW Government's Graffiti Management Grant program. This initiative aims to combat graffiti vandalism, which can negatively impact public spaces, create visual pollution, and instill fear among residents. By using art installations like murals, the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has effectively deterred offenders and improved the overall streetscapes in the region.

About Bonny Hills

Bonny Hills is a picturesque coastal village located in the Port Macquarie-Hastings local government area (LGA) on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, Australia. Situated about 20 kilometers south of Port Macquarie, the village offers stunning elevated views of the coastline, spanning over approximately 14 kilometers of pristine beaches.

In its early days, Bonny Hills was inhabited by fishing enthusiasts from the tough, north coast timbermen, and dairy farmers from the nearby areas like Wauchope and hinterland. In the past, the village was dotted with old wooden fishing shacks, but over time, they have been replaced by residential homes and holiday parks offering million-dollar views of the ocean.

The region is known for its family-friendly holiday parks, conveniently located in Bonny Hills and Rainbow Beach, providing easy access to the spectacular beaches.
